I have this thing with pineapples. As a Floridian, I’ve always been fond of the tropical fruit, but I reached a new appreciation after visiting the Newport Mansions in Rhode Island. From wallpaper to fountains to outdoor statues, pineapples are literally everywhere. Turns out, pineapples share a colorful piece of social history and are an international symbol of hospitality. According to Southern Living, “The ability of a hostess to have a pineapple adorn her dining table for an important event said as much about her rank in society as it did about her ingenuity.” I rounded up 26 cute housewarming gift ideas for pineapple lovers a few months ago, and then I saw this idea by Handimania on Pinterest. It’s brilliant. If you’re looking for DIY housewarming gifts, you literally can’t go wrong with this colorful pineapple champagne bottle!

Full transparency– if you’re looking for cheap DIY housewarming gifts, this adorned pineapple champagne bottle may not be the craft for you. After all was said and done, I would estimate this gift costs around $35 (and after seeing the look on the recipient’s face, it’ll be worth every penny)! It takes around 30 minutes and is perfect for celebrating holidays, housewarming events, and birthdays. Keep reading for a step-by-step tutorial!

DIY Pineapple Champagne Bottle

In addition to a hot glue gun and some tape, here’s everything you need:

• 1 bottle of champagne
• 50+ Ferrero Rocher chocolates
• Gold and green tissue paper
• 1 empty toilet paper roll
• Thick gold ribbon

Step 1: Wrap some gold tissue paper around the body of the champagne bottle. Secure liberally with clear packing tape. This tissue paper needs to be sturdy enough to hold all the chocolate without ripping, so the more tape, the better. 

Step 2: Using a hot glue gun, glue each Ferrero Rocher chocolate to tissue paper, starting with the bottom of the champagne bottle. Keep gluing until you’ve covered the desired surface area. For reference, I covered about half the height of the bottle, and I used exactly 50 Ferrero Rocher chocolates. 

Step 3: Turn the empty toilet paper roll into a proper pineapple topper by cutting the green tissue paper into a leafy garland, leaving about two inches at the bottom of the paper. You can easily do this by folding the tissue paper in half and cutting out leaf spears from the unfolded edge.

Roll the leaf garland around the empty toilet paper roll, securing with tape on both sides. 

Place around the neck of the champagne bottle. In case someone tries to pick up the pineapple gift from the top, secure with tape, as well. 

Step 4: Give the DIY pineapple topper more volume by taping on layers of green leaf garland. Flare the tissue upward and outward to resemble a real pineapple. Add as many additional layers as necessary. 

 Step 5: Cover any remaining empty space by tying a gold bow between the Ferrero Rocher chocolates and tissue paper pineapple topper. Use a thick gold ribbon that closely resembles the foil color of the chocolates. 

Step 6: A few chocolates wouldn’t stay put, so secure any loose chocolates with extra hot glue. Oh, and enjoy your party! Don’t forget to remind the giftee that there’s a full bottle of champagne in there. Sharing is caring!
