This is my first winter in Missouri, and I’ve gotta say– holy cow, it’s cold. After spending last winter in Maine, I think Kyle and I were overconfident in our ability to adapt to colder temperatures. Side note: I was definitely overconfident in my ability to battle hair static. It’s bad. My point is that we didn’t come to Columbia prepared with proper winter wear. Unfortunately for me, I left for Florida in early December, when it was a pleasant 50-60 degrees. Now it’s in the negatives, and I spent way more than expected on Christmas gifts. To cope with the cold without going into debt, I started researching cheap winter coats online. I took a risk on this affordable camel coat from SheIn (seriously, y’all, it’s $40). I’m so glad I did.
If you’re wary of SheIn, I’m right there with you. Some items are awesome, and some are unwearable. This coat is awesome (and for the record, I never promote the things that are unwearable). It’s double breasted, has nice deep pockets, and will actually keep you warm. Plus, it’s soft, although the material is Polyester and 20% Rayon. Ie, you get what you pay for. That being said, it’s hands down the most versatile coat I own. I can wear it to the office, to brunch, to church… really anywhere, and I’ll still be warm. Head to the bottom of this post for full outfit details. I’ve also rounded up 10 more affordable camel coats for women under $100!
I was chatting with my photographer, the amazing Catherine Rhodes, during this shoot, and I realized that I finally understand why everyone wears crossbody bags in the winter. It is virtually impossible to keep a shoulder bag on your shoulder when you’ve got heavy layers working against you. Seriously, it’s super frustrating. This black quilted crossbody bag is about 3 years old, and I’ve gotten more use out of it in the past 4 weeks than I ever have in Florida. Cheers to accessories that you find new value in years later!
