Sometimes the best kind of shopping happens in your own closet. I ordered this gorgeous double ruffle one shoulder midi dress over a year ago, but between our 5 moves in the past 12 months, I completely lost track of it. I was doing some (very belated) unpacking a few weeks ago, and I re-discovered it among a handful of other old garments. At first glance, it looked rather matronly, so I hesitated to even try it on. Because I’m 5’6.5″, I tend to steer clear of midi-length dresses, since they usually don’t do my legs any favors. Fortunately, I was looking for some dressier spring wedding dress outfits, so I gave it a go. I’m ridiculously glad I did… because this has to be one of my favorite dresses of all time.
The double ruffle detail adds a chic romantic flair, and the length is surprisingly flattering for women of average height. Oh, and did I mention it’s $25 and could easily pass for a $200+ design? Not too shabby! Catherine, my Columbia photographer, noticed that this would also make a gorgeous (and cost efficient) bridesmaids dress, too! As frilly as it is, I went on a frantic search to find this exact dress online, and I also saw it casually styled with white canvas sneakers and a cute straw hat. I’m honestly convinced you could put a trash bag over it, and it’d still look fashion-forward. Head to the bottom of this post for full outfit details plus five more of the best dresses to wear to a spring wedding!
