As a retired beauty queen, I know how important it is to put your best legs forward, especially during the swimsuit phase of a statewide competition. Most people are literally amazed when they ask, “How many spray tans did it take to get your legs that dark?”– and my response is “just one, maybe two.” In addition to butt glue, which holds your swimsuit in place, the subtle use of spray-on leg makeup is one of pageantry’s best kept secrets. The best leg makeup instantly enhances your figure, can help you add definition to leg muscles, and allows you to feel glam and confident without investing countless hours and hundreds of dollars in a tanning salon.
It can be tough to find products that work reliably, though, especially when you’re relying on them to look your best in a swimsuit. So, I’m answering some popular leg makeup FAQs in todays post!
Everything You Need to Know about Leg Makeup
Where can I find the best leg makeup?
In my opinion, the absolute best leg makeup on the market (for both price and quality) is Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs, which comes in both spray-on and smooth-on formulas. Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs isn’t just a beauty queen favorite, either; it’s a go-to product for celebrity make-up artists, stylists, and beauty/fashion influencers all over the world. Whether you’re hitting the beach, getting ready for a night on the town, or prepping for the most important pageant of your life, Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs is the perfect reliable product to help finish your look.
Oh, and my reasoning for naming Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs the best leg makeup is three-fold:
- First of all, it subtly covers your legs’ imperfections, freckles, and veins, so you don’t have to be self-conscious about your birth marks or embarrassing self-induced bruises.
- Secondly, the product is long-wearing and stays fresh and natural-looking all day.
- Lastly, its lightweight formula is water-and-transfer-resistant.
Are there specific products you recommend?
In terms of specific products, I have two favorites. I use Spray-On Perfect Legs, which has a light-to-medium coverage but can be easily re-applied for additional layers of color, for an even application on a time crunch. When I know I’ll be in a swimsuit, whether it’s on stage or at the beach, I use Smooth-On Perfect Legs instead. It has a really nice matte finish and provides medium-to-full coverage.
How do you apply (or remove) leg makeup?
Leg makeup application is incredibly simple. For Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Spray, shake the product well before spraying into your hand. Note that spraying Airbrush Legs into your hand versus directly onto your legs allows for a more even application. Next, rub on your legs until completely blended and allow the spray to set in for at least 60 seconds before dressing or adding additional layers.
For Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Lotion, squeeze a quarter-sized amount of product into your hand and smooth on your legs evenly and completely. Apply sparingly to your knees and ankles. Allow to set for at least 8-10 minutes before dressing. If you applied body lotion, wait 20 minutes before applying Airbrush Legs. Of course, directions and specific product information can also be found on the back of either product.
Also, great news! Both leg makeup products can be easily removed with just soap, water, and a washcloth. Do try and avoid using Airbrush Legs with any other products containing oil, like body or tanning oils, though. Also, for the best results and an even application, shave before giving it a try.
