I’m not sure where March has gone, but Easter is this Sunday, y’all! Time to start dying some eggs! Kyle got me a new subscription to a bunch of southern lifestyle magazines for Valentine’s Day, and I’ve been on craft overload ever since. I saw an absolutely stunning blue and white Easter tablescape in the March edition of Southern Living, and I fell in love with some DIY marbled eggs that they featured. I ran to the store and grabbed some disposable bowls, blue nail polish, and a dozen plastic decorating eggs. If you’re artistically sloppy like I am, you’ll probably also want to grab some nail polish remover.

I can’t stand the idea of tossing an Easter masterpiece– and trust me, you’ll want to keep these around, so I highly recommend purchasing durable plastic decorating eggs for this project! I love that you can store them year after year, and you don’t have to worry about any broken shells or foul smells. Plus, I’m not sure if nail polish easter eggs are safe to eat, so they’re just more sensible all around. I also advise against using Sally Hansen’s Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear formula. It’s affordable and a great formula for nails, but it congeals very quickly for crafting.

Although most crafts this pretty take lots of time, effort, and skill, this project is actually really simple! It’s also very messy, so be ready for that, too. To start, fill a disposable bowl with room-temperature water and pour in enough nail polish to cover the surface. Although I doubt this is necessary for everyone, I repeated this process for each egg. As I mentioned above, the nail polish I used congealed too quickly. A little bit went a long way, though, so I still only needed one bottle.

Next, using a toothpick or stirrer, make a swirling motion in the water.

Finally, using two fingers, gently submerge each plastic or hard-boiled egg into the water. Place in a carton or easter egg holder to dry. Wait a minimum of 30 minutes before handling.

Annnd it doesn’t get much easier than that! I think the reason I love this particular DIY project so much is A. I love Easter and B. You really can’t go wrong with your approach. I usually obsess over strokes not looking uniform or details not being perfect, but marbling is meant to look natural and chaotic. Seriously, I made one big blue marbled mess– and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the finished product!

As for display ideas, Southern Living recommends nestling each egg on top of a bed of ryegrass in a small bowl and utilizing them as part of your Easter tablescape. You can also throw them in a large blue or crystal bowl and display them as a centerpiece. Either way, even if they’re sitting in an egg carton on your kitchen counter, these DIY blue marbled easter eggs are gorgeous!

Do you have any fun Easter plans? This is Kyle’s and my first Easter away from home, so we’ll probably just go to church, watch some movies with Nala, and enjoy an obscene amount of mimosas. A local pet store is also hosting a fun easter egg hunt for dogs (doesn’t that sounds like the cutest thing ever?!), so we may need to check that out, too! Hope y’all have a wonderful time with your families and friends!
