Olive Oil Gift Set Materials and Ingredients

Here’s everything you need to make your own olive oil gift set–

  • Oil dispenser– Any branded or non-branded oil dispenser bottle will work, but I love these glass bottles. The gold spouts are super stylish and perfect for oils, syrups, mouthwash– everything! This one is the 8oz, but the 13oz bottle is a good size, too. You may just need a bigger baguette to pair with it!
  • Small baguette– Nothing pairs with seasoned olive oil quite like a French baguette! If you use an olive oil bottle similar in size to mine, you may need cut a standard baguette in half. Another option is to use a hoagie roll instead.
  • Homemade herb mix– This homemade herb mix, which I found in Taste of Home: Homemade Food Gifts, is made up of dried garlic, dried rosemary, dried oregano, dried basil, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. The recipe is just below!
  • Herb mix bag– I used these little cotton drawstring bags to hold my homemade herb mix.
  • Instruction/gift tag– The instructions are fairly straightforward, but it’s always nice to include a card to clarify what everything is.
  • New kitchen towel– These red and white striped kitchen towels come in a set of six and are perfect for the holidays! They make wonderful makeshift bows, too.
  • Sprig of fresh rosemary– Fresh herbs are always appreciated, so I added a sprig of fresh rosemary from our herb garden as a garnish.

Also, here are all the ingredients in the homemade herb mix–

  • 1 tbsp dried minced garlic
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tbsp dried rosemary
  • 3 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper

How to Make a Homemade Olive Oil Gift Set

When it comes to homemade Christmas gifts, this olive oil gift set is as easy as it gets! I mean, seriously… I don’t think you’ll find a better or more unique DIY Christmas gift idea that takes less time or money. So, let’s get started!

First and foremost, you need to make the homemade herb mix. You can add or substitute as needed, but here’s the recipe I used (and, trust me, it rivals fancy Italian restaurants)–

  • 1 tbsp dried minced garlic
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tbsp dried rosemary
  • 3 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper

Combine all the herbs and spices in a bag (I love these little cotton drawstring bags!) and set aside.

Next, fill the oil dispenser with olive oil, grab your French baguette or hoagie roll, and tie them together with a fresh kitchen towel. Tie the herb mix onto the oil dispenser, along with an instruction card/gift tag. Here’s what my gift tag says–

Herb Mix for Dipping Oil: In a small bowl, combine 4 teaspoons of the herb mix with water. Microwave, uncovered, on high for 10-15 seconds. Drain excess water. Transfer herbs to a shallow serving plate. Add oil and stir. Serve with bread– and enjoy!

Lastly, garnish your gift set with a sprig of fresh rosemary and gift away!

Just one quick maintenance note– be sure to always carry these olive oil gifts from the bottom. Unless your kitchen towel bow is like… really tight, you may end up with a broken glass oil dispenser if you’re not careful.

DIY Olive Oil Gift Set

Yield: 1 gift set
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Difficulty: Easy

This DIY olive oil gift set is the perfect homemade Christmas gift! You can make it as fancy or budget-friendly as you want or need, so whether you're looking for homemade Christmas gifts for coworkers or homemade Christmas gifts for teachers (or neighbors or whomever!), this one will be greatly appreciated-- and it won't break the bank either!

Materials

  • Oil dispenser
  • Small baguette or Hoagie roll
  • Homemade herb mix (1 tbsp dried minced garlic, 2 tsp dried basil, 1 tbsp dried rosemary, 3 tsp dried oregano, 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper)
  • Mini drawstring bags
  • Gift tag
  • Kitchen towel
  • Sprig of fresh rosemary (for scent and garnish!)

Instructions

  1. Make the homemade herb mix and place it inside a small and hole-free drawstring bag.
  2. Fill the oil dispenser with olive oil and tie it next to the baguette or Hoagie roll with a nice new kitchen towel. You may want to cut the bread to match the height of the oil dispenser (that's what I do when there's a sizable height difference).
  3. Tie the herb mix bag onto the oil dispenser, along with an instruction card/gift tag. If you don't want to design your own, you can download the one I created here.

Notes

If you want to go the extra mile, grab another matching oil dispenser and fill it with balsamic vinegar!

Quick maintenance note-- be sure to always carry these olive oil gifts from the bottom. Unless your kitchen towel bow is like... really tight, you may end up with a broken glass oil dispenser if you're not careful.
