If you’re shopping for someone who lives through the lens of their iPhone, I’ve found the perfect stocking stuffer for them! It’s called the HP Sprocket Photo Printer, and it’s a teeny tiny little printer that lets you quickly customize and print your smartphone and social media photos from virtually anywhere. As soon as I saw it on Walmart.com during obligatory Black Friday shopping, I knew I needed one– and for a very justifiable reason. Before settling in Columbia, Kyle and I moved around the country for a year. Without question, our favorite spot was Maine. We lived in Damariscotta and then Lincolnville for six months, and as a Florida native who had never experienced changing seasons, it was the most extraordinarily beautiful experience.

Living inside a real New England winter—the kind you see in magazines with sparkling icicles, evergreen pines, and blankets upon blankets of now—will leave you with a happy heart and a lot of photos on your phone. So, deciding to buy myself the HP Sprocket as an early Christmas gift was the easy part. The hard part was deciding if I wanted one in red, white, or black. I love a good power color, so I chose red. It’s so darn cute, and it’s currently my absolute favorite gadget! About the size of a cell phone, this portable printer goes with me anywhere and everywhere. It’s the perfect instant photo printer for events, family trips… you name it!

How to Use the HP Sprocket

Because the printer itself is tiny, its box is also tiny. If you’re looking inside Walmart, keep a sharp eye out. Each HP Sprocket comes with a pack of HP ZINK Sticky-Backed Photo Paper (yes, as in you can turn them into 2 x 3-inch stick-able snapshots) and a charging cable. It also comes with a very simple instructions card. 

Per the two-sided instructions card, start by charging the HP Sprocket.

Next, head to hpsprocket.com. It’ll give you step-by-step instructions, including how to connect your printer to Bluetooth. Once you’re done with the setup, download the HP Sprocket app for free from the App Store or Google Play.

Then load the photo paper with the blue calibration card face down.

Open the app, pick a picture, and print! The HP Sprocket will print out the blue sheet first to calibrate the printer, and then it’ll print your first image. Super fun and super easy! If the coloring’s not quite right or you want to add some personality to your photos, you can edit photos in the app, too, which is really convenient. You can also customize your photos with frames, emojis, text, stickers, filters, and other fun embellishments. 

Voila! You can print out a handful of colorful 2 x 3-inch snapshots in just a few minutes. One of my favorite things about the HP Sprocket is that the photos are such a perfect size for crafts and collages. For example, Kyle and I both miss Maine like crazy, so I wanted to surprise him with some photos to commemorate our time together last winter. 

In addition to a fun wall collage, I also decided to use a few photos to spice up our Christmas gift wrap! Each photo adds an extra personal touch to our Christmas tree. The HP Sprocket Photo Printer is brand new and available now at Walmart and Walmart.com. You can find them in the printer aisle. It retails for $129.99 and comes in white, black and red.
