I’ve had long hair for as long as I can remember, so I totally understand why people give up and chop all their hair off. It’s hard work maintaining attractive long hair. It takes double (and sometimes triple) the heat to blow dry, straighten, and/or curl, and, as I learned while competing in pageants (evidence), there’s nothing more disturbing than running your fingers through your hair only to find what feels like broom bristles… and split ends. Since I was somehow successfully able to re-strengthen my twice brunette-turned-blonde hair with a very specific sequence of TLC, this post outlines my current personal long hair care routine for mitigating damage caused by heat and excessive styling and growing nothing but gorgeous sexy hair.

Before getting into any specifics, it’s incredibly important to find a hair care brand and specific product line that are tailor made for your hair. I’ve been a fan of the Sexy Hair brand, aka the experts in cutting and styling, for forever, and I recently became attached to the Long Sexy Hair product line, which is ideal for long hair and extensions. Long Sexy Hair gives long hair and extensions moisture and shine while preventing hair from getting excessively dry, dull, or damaged and resulting in better detangling. Plus, it’s infused with Moringa Oil and Biotin, which are both great natural supplements for strengthening hair and for giving the products an incredible scent. If you’re already fan or you’d like to give any of their products a try, you can use code LONG to get 15% off on the Long Sexy Hair product line at SexyHair.com!

The cornerstone of any good long hair care routine is a quality shampoo and conditioner, and I use Long Sexy Hair Shampoo and Conditioner about three times a week. They’re both color safe, which is a great precaution for anyone who dyes their hair or extensions.

I try to never blow dry my hair when it’s completely wet. I like to partially let it air dry for at least twenty minutes before turning on any heat.

Since my hair is prone to knotting, I spray in Long Sexy Hair Luxe Leave-In Detangler and comb it through my hair (for an even application) while it’s damp. This leave-in detangler can be used on its own or in combination with other preferred styling products, which I’ve listed below, for protecting against heat.

Even with damp hair, blow dryers can do a lot of damage. So, before I blow dry, I lightly spray Long Sexy Hair Luxe Blow Out, which is a soft and gentle dry spray, on damp hair and comb through for smooth, shiny, and frizz-free hair.

Once my hair is partially dry and protected from the heat, I use a ceramic blow dryer on medium/high heat. I keep it constantly moving to avoid over-frying any particular region of my hair, which I’m embarrassed to say has happened before (while I was getting ready for a pageant actually– and yes, I made the entire dressing room smell like burnt hair). Also, once it’s almost completely dry, I switch to cold air for a minute or two to seal the hair cuticle and set the final look.

Once my hair is dry, the last part of my long hair care routine is spritzing it with Big Sexy Hair Silk Finish serum. This serum helps repair, smooth, and protect all hair types from blow drying, straightening, curling, etc. and is ideal for taming frizz and fly aways. With just a few squirts, my hair always looks and feels soft enough to be in a hair flipping commercial.

Also, try to get in the habit of washing your hair as few times a week as possible. I’m Italian, so I completely understand the urge to rid your hair of excess oil. Try using a great dry shampoo, like Long Sexy Hair Dry Shampoo, instead of regular shampoo, though. Not only will it save you time in the mornings, but it will get rid of your dirty hair’s dirt and oil without eliminating volume or moisture.

Again, while this is my personal long hair care routine, everyone’s hair is different. It’s important to keep trying products until you find a line that works for you! If you have long hair or extensions and you’d like to try any of the Long Sexy Hair products (and I highly recommend you do!), use code LONG to take 15% off all products in the Long Sexy Hair line at SexyHair.com!
