Football season’s in full swing, y’all! As much as I love tailgating recipes, one of my favorite things about hosting watch parties is getting to decorate beforehand. Since floral arrangements aren’t exactly “on theme” for game days (and usually just go unnoticed by sports fans), I love putting together creative football centerpieces instead! I actually got the idea for this DIY game day centerpiece from Hobby Lobby (it was on top of one of their in-aisle displays), and I made my own for Mizzou’s season-opener last month. It was a big hit, and I’m full-on planning to leave it up all season long. Keep reading for the super easy tutorial!
DIY Game Day Centerpiece Idea
Here’s all you need to make this simple DIY football centerpiece:
- 1 small wooden crate
- 4 bushes of faux wheat or monkey grass (I got mine at Hobby Lobby)
- 3-5 wooden football picks
To recreate this game day centerpiece, arrange the greenery diagonally in the crate, pulling apart the grass blades to fill the space. Then, position the wooden football picks evenly throughout the grass. For reference, I used 5 and positioned one in the center and one in each corner. I personally didn’t use any floral foam or tape, but neither would hurt if you’ve got them and want to make sure your picks stay put.
Super cute, right? I got so many compliments on it, and it was so stinkin’ easy to throw together!
Also, if you need more game day ideas or recipes, check out my all-time favorite game day meatball recipe! They’re super easy to make, packed with protein, and perfect for a crowd!
Who are y’all rooting for this year? I’m torn because I’ve basically adopted Mizzou as my own team, but I’ll always be a UCF Knight at heart. Here’s hoping they never actually play each other!
