Dove Dry Shampoo, 2nd Day Hair Styles, Longer Ponytail, Full Ponytail, Easy Hair Tutorial

When I actually take the time to do my hair, my 30+ minutes of primping better last more than a day. Unfortunately for me, I’m Italian, which translates to having hair and skin that get freakishly oily within 24 hours of washing. I’ve unsuccessfully experimented with a handful of expensive dry shampoos, most of which leave an unsightly white residue in my dark brown roots, to reduce the number of general washes per week, so I finally decided to give Dove Refresh+Care Dry Shampoo a try, as well– and it’s pretty wonderful for a fraction of the cost. Since I’ve finally found an affordable product that doesn’t leave a gunky, conspicuous, clay-like elixir in my hair, I’ve started experimenting with 2nd day styling options, like this longer ponytail hair do. It’s super easy to do, and it’s a great way to fake a voluminous, longer ponytail with 2nd or even 3rd day hair.

I never thought I’d be saying this, but you want to start with a head of dry, dirty hair. Make sure you shake your can of Dove Refresh+Care Dry Shampoo before using.

Spray on lifted sections of dry hair, 8-12 inches from your roots, where the hair is most oily. The Dove Refresh+Care Dry Shampoo weightless formula absorbs oil to refresh hair gently, leaving it clean, nourished, and incredibly soft. It smells fantastic, as most Dove products do, and it provides a convenient and quick way to refresh and revive my oily, limp hair on the day I can’t/ don’t want to wash my hair.

Massage the product through your roots to absorb oil evenly, and brush through for hair that’s clean, revived, and volumized. Depending on how much bounce you’re going for, you can either use a gentle brush (for softer curls) or your fingers (for bigger, messier curls) to distribute the oil through your hair.

After you’re all clean, divide your hair into two sections– one directly below the other. Since your top pony tail will cover the elastic for the bottom section, I like to make sure the top is much more voluminous.

Gather the remaining bottom hair into a ponytail directly below the top, and tease where necessary for added volume.

Super easy, right? This longer ponytail look is simple, glamorous, and virtually idiot-proof. Not a bad combo!

Ahh this is such a great idea! I wonder if my hair will be full enough to cover the lower one. (Don’t want a tbt moment to elementary school where the bottom one actually shows haha.) But really, I have been looking for a new dry shampoo, thanks so much for sharing!

Great tips for maximizing second and third day hair! I use Oscar Blandi dry shampoo which is non-aerosol. I travel a lot so & the container is great for complying with TSA guidelines. Your hair is fabulous!

I will definitely be trying this! I love putting my hair in a ponytail because it’s so easy and carefree, but I don’t want it to look…blah! I’ve heard that dry shampoo smells amazing, too!

Your hair looks amazing!!! I have the same problem, as soon as 24 hours hits my hair is sooo oily! I haven’t really found the dry shampoo that works for me yet, they make my scalp itchy, which drives me nuts!

I also struggle with pretty oily hair. I’m going to have to try this dry shampoo. The ones I’ve tried so far leave a nasty residue on my hair.
