I love St.Patrick’s Day as much as the next girl. In fact, due to my innate overexcitement for holidays in general, I probably love it more than the average person. I can’t just not honor the Irish on their special day of binge drinking. Unfortunately, I have the Miss Florida competition coming up in a few months, and my body just can’t afford the added calories in a pitcher of green beer, which for you numbers people is between 400-500 calories, right now. That’s like an extra 3 miles on the treadmill. No, thank you.  How do I pull myself out of this festive predicament? I’ve decided to devote my day to drinking Bigelow green tea instead!

Green tea is healthier, caffeinated, and won’t make me gain 5 pounds of water weight overnight…and it still possesses the ultimate St. Patrick’s Day color attribute (green, duh). Plus, Bigelow’s tea is significantly cheaper for all you budget babes– their bonus packs actually come with 4 extra tea bags while supplies last, y’all– and is available at any Walmart location. This 3-generation, family owned, and all American company manufactures the absolute best tea in the country, especially for the price. They package their bags in handy foil pouches for quality assurance, which also guarantees safe and easy transport in my disaster-prone, Mary Poppins-sized bag. Multi-functionally fabulous.

In addition to a variety of other beverage choices, Bigelow makes regular green tea, caffeinated or decaffeinated, and/or you can choose one with an added flavor, like mint, mango, or pomegranate. My personal favorite is their green tea with mango—seriously delish. If you’re not a hot tea kind of person, add a little bit of sugar and put it over ice. It’s a nice substitute for iced coffee in the mornings, too.

So what exactly are some of the health perks to opting for this “super” beverage? According to my research, green tea is considered one of the world’s healthiest drinks and contains the highest amount of antioxidants of any tea on the market. Natural chemicals called polyphenols are what are thought to provide its almighty anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic effects (layman’s terms translation: reduces risk of cancer and heart disease). In addition to potentially being responsible for weight loss, medical studies have found that green tea is helpful in preventing dental cavities, stress, chronic fatigue, treating skin conditions and improving arthritis by reducing inflammation. So basically, drink up, y’all!

Oh, and don’t forget to wear your green, too! I’ve gotta have me plastic leprechaun hat. Just call me Lucky…. and give me all your cereal.

I love green tea, and it certainly has far more weight and health benefits that drinking beer…green or not. But I wouldn't drink green beer anyways! I love St. Patty's Day, but there are so many better ways to celebrate it, and green tea sounds as good to me as any of them!

You are totally cute! I love how you broke down the amount of miles on the treadmill you'd have to add to compensate for drinking a bunch of green beer….hardly seems worth it after seeing that! Green tea is such a healthier way to drink something green today.
