Corks for a Cause: Junior League of Greater Orlando Spring Soiree

If you follow me on Twitter, and if you don’t you totally should, you know that I joined the Junior League of Greater Orlando in January. I’m an official member of their 2014 Spring Provisional Class, which is like a grown up version of a sorority pledge group, and so far, I’ve had nothing but the most pleasant of experiences getting to know the incredibly driven, philanthropic, and like-minded women of Greater Central Florida. The JLGO has given me a pretty stern reality check, and I like it. If criminal lawyers/doctors/etc. working 60+ hours a week can afford to volunteer 4 hours of their time a week to community programs, so can I. And then some. To be honest, I’m not sure what kept me from joining four years ago; I may have retained some of the energy and time I wasted messing around with the ubiquitous and oh-so-tawdry Orlando bar crowd, but whatever—all things happen in His timing.
This Saturday was the JLGO’s Annual Spring Soiree, dubbed Corks for a Cause. The event, which vowed to “raise a glass to end childhood hunger,” was held at the beautifully modern Quantum Leap Winery in College Park, and oh em gee, it was the most perfect venue for a “vineyard chic” themed party. Whoever planned this soiree gets 450 Party Planning Committee brownie points in my book, aside from the fact that “vineyard chic” is an ambiguous and somewhat confusing dress code. Whatever, you can never, under any circumstances, ever go wrong with Lilly-inspired fashion.
I grabbed this bright pink Bridesmaid dress from my girl Rosie’s (Yes, that was a Sophia Grace reference) wedding last year and paired it with this stunning $11 luxe faux pearl and rhinestone necklace from Forever 21 and Lauren Conrad nude pumps. I’m not sure if it was very vinyard chic, but it definitely generated an abundance of compliments. Thanks, Rosie, for not making me buy a fugly dress. You da you da best.
My date Rachael and I arrived fashionably late (ie. 8:10; party started at 8:00—such rebels) and were literally overwhelmed by the size of the league. Up until this point, we’d really only been introduced to our prospective class, which is just under 50 ladies, and amidst a crowd of hundreds, our newb status was more palpable than ever. We finally found a group of “our kind” and put our drink tickets to good use. Hello, pinot grigio.
Oh, and if the company and wine weren’t enough to keep Rachael and I in good moods, the dessert bar did the trick. Neither of us are entirely sure what we actually ate… all we know is that it was basically culinary exquisiteness in bite-sized and shooter form. Hence, because they were petite, it’s acceptable that I had 2 plates, right? Exactly. Also, sometimes I talk to myself.
I’m so glad I got to know my fellow prospective princesses better, especially over wine, people watching and amazing food. I’m ready for the next one! Is anyone else a member of the Junior League? I had no idea how many different chapters all over the country there are. It’s crazy– I’m definitely looking forward to visiting with the DC league when I visit S next month! Cherry Blossom Festival, y’all. Can’t. Wait.
It looks like you had a blast! you look lovely in pink (actually, what don't you look lovely in?!)! I hope to join the Junior League after graduation – let me know whenever you're in the DC area! I go home with Christian for college breaks and that's where he's from!
I have actually been looking into joining the JL in Charlotte, not really having an insider's perspective/thoughts has been a bit of a hold back. I would love to know more about your experience!

They do! All over the country, actually. There's like 500+ leagues or something in total. Nutty!
