I’ve always wanted to be a newscaster. Martha MacCallum, Nancy Grace, and Laura McKeeman (former sister queen/Miss Florida 2012/Fox Sports reporter—yes, girl crush) are all female TV personalities I look up to, particularly for their effortless eloquence. Quite a few Miss Americas, Tawny Little and Gretchen Carlson for example, have also worked in the wide world of Broadcast Journalism. I’ve been told that I have a pleasant “speaking voice” (thanks?) and exhibit reporter-esque articulation; however, it was never a path I chose to explore in college. Boo.
While most kids go on a field trip to the news station in elementary school, I postponed my VIP visit to the big 2-5. A dear friend from high school, AB, has been working as a director at WFTV Channel 9 News for over 6 years, and sadly, Wednesday was his last day. S and I were invited to tour the station, watch the news live, and of course, take copious amounts of pictures in the news room. Not to mention, we got to chat with the 10 0’Clock News anchors, Jorge Estevez and Martie Salt, who were downright hilarious and extremely incredulous about the purpose of my presence.
Pretty much the entire evening was spent quoting Anchorman and joking around with the personalities of Ch. 9 News. I was literally a kid in a candy store… the entire station was like a magical playground that I need to be a regular part of. Perhaps a career change is in order? Who knows. Regardless of whether or not I become the next Barbara Walters, here is the invaluable information I learned during my field trip:

Now that I’ve made friends with the security guard, you can expect to see me regularly as a contributor to the 10 O’Clock News. This is Stephanie Ziajka, signing off. hehe. Have a wonderful week, lovelies!
you're too cute. definitely become a news anchor. my mom wants me to work at fox news lol
We could totally take over Fox News. Let's do it.
Hold up. Did you do pageants, Stephanie?! I currently compete in the Miss America system! This seemed like a pretty fun opp for you!
Whaat?! YES! I competed in the Miss Florida System for one and a half years (before getting sick- boo), so I've aged out now. I'm considering entering the Miss USA system, but we'll see. As you know, it's kind of a large commitment. I'm so glad to meet another MAO sister! Which state do you compete it?
xo,
Steph
The camera love you! I love Nancy Grace, too.

Haha, thank you! I want to be Nancy Grace when I grow up! I guess a practical first step would be interning at a local news station, but whatever. Go big or go home, right? 🙂 Happy Saturday!

You looked like a natural up there at the anchor desk. I bet if you put your mind to it, you could really do it. 🙂
Thanks! 🙂 I know, I'm still in the awkward mid-20s phase where I'm deciding what I actually want to do for a living (nevermind my Actuarial Science degree), and news is definitely up there! Ahh. Thanks for the motivation! Happy Saturday!

Steph

Hi Stephanie!
Great post and I learned something new about the anchor's chairs! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! Looks like we also have a love of all things Lily Pulitzer in common too!
Then I'm so glad to meet a fellow Lilly Lover! 🙂 Thanks for returning the favor! Hope you had a fabulous weekend.
