This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Burt’s Bees. All opinions are 100% mine.
Looking to get pretty in a hurry? You came to the right place. Whether you’re a sleep-deprived student or a young professional who’s routinely guilty of sleeping through 3 alarms, this post features a handful of tips and tricks for looking more awake in less time. There’s nothing fancy or difficult about this simple makeup routine for school (or work)– the key is choosing the right cosmetic essentials and applying them correctly. I, for one, am a huge Burt’s Bees® fan and have been for years. Their products are effective, affordable, and naturally-sourced. I have notoriously sensitive skin, and I’ve never had a single breakout or negative reaction from any Burt’s Bees cosmetics or skincare products.
Also, if having a cruelty free makeup routine is important to you, all Burt’s Bees products are certified cruelty free! Here are the products I use in this 7-product (and totally cruelty-free) minimal makeup routine from Walmart:
- Burt’s Bees Brow Pencil (1610 Brunette)
- Burt’s Bees Goodness Glows Liquid Makeup (1015 Buff)
- Burt’s Bees Mattifying Powder Foundation (1110 Vanilla)
- Burt’s Bees Blush (1210 Shy Pink)
- Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Eye Shadow Palette (1520 Dusky Woods)
- Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Nourishing Mascara (1305 Classic Black)
- Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Glossy Lipstick (516 Rose Falls)
Step 1: Fill in your brows
Eyebrows shape your face, and when drawn on correctly, they can knock years off your age. That being said, I never leave them out of any makeup routine, no matter how minimal. I love the Burt’s Bees Brow Pencil since it’s super easy to use and creates feathery, natural-looking brows without a fuss.
Step 2: Even out your skin tone with a non-greasy foundation
An even skin tone is the cornerstone of any makeup routine. I used to be a huge fan of BB Cream, but I’ve developed some severe hyperpigmentation on my face, and it simply doesn’t give me the coverage I need. So, a light foundation that provides the same “barely there” feel and natural look is key. Burt’s Bees Goodness Glows Liquid Makeup does just that. Its finish is matte and smooth, not greasy or heavy like so many other foundations, and its full coverage replaces the need for color correction or concealer.
Step 3: Eliminate shine with a matte powder
In my experience, nothing says “I didn’t have time to get ready this morning” like a shiny flushed face. Quickly brush on some powder to ensure your face looks matte and shine-free. I love Burt’s Bees Mattifying Powder because it’s lightweight, oil-controlling, and provides buildable coverage if your liquid foundation is lacking. It’s also made with bamboo to blur imperfections, which is pretty neat.
Step 4: Add a touch of soft pink to your cheeks
A touch of soft pink, both on your cheeks and your lips, adds just enough color to brighten up your skin. I’ve been loving Burt’s Bees Blush in Shy Pink. It’s 100% natural and blends easily and evenly.
Step 5: Highlight your eyes with eyeshadow
If you’re ever in a time crunch and visibly tired, try these eyeshadow tricks! First, use your finger to dab a neutral highlighting shadow in the inner corners of your eyelids. It’ll brighten up even the most tired eyes. For those particularly rough mornings (like today for me), use a brush to lightly sweep the shadow across the entire eyelid. Second, avoid using a shadow with bold or pink tones. Oh, and stay far away from smokey eyes. Darker shadows can actually make your eyes look smaller, and consequently, your face more fatigued. Lastly, apply either a nude eyeliner on your waterline or sweep the lightest highlighting shadow you can find directly below your lower lashline to open up your eyes even more.
Instead of an overwhelming shadow palette, I’ve been loving Burt’s Bees Eyeshadow in Dusky Woods. The middle shadow is perfect for highlighting, and the lightest shadow replaces the need for a nude eyeliner in a time crunch.
Step 6: Lengthen and define your lashes
Big curled lashes go a long way! In fact, I’d say they’re the key to looking wide-eyed and awake. Add some lengthening mascara, like Burt’s Bees Nourishing Mascara, to further define your eyes. If you have the time, use an eyelash curler to enhance their curl even more.
Step 7: Add a pop of soft pink on your lips
Finally, pull your whole minimal makeup routine together with a soft pink lipstick– preferably one that’s a few shades pinker than your actual lips, like Burt’s Bees Glossy Lipstick in Rose Falls. As much as you may want to during the upcoming fall semester, wearing a dark plum lip will draw attention to dark under-eye circles and dehydrated skin. Steer clear of any vampy shades until you’re wide-eyed and well rested. Or on Halloween.
Oh yeah, did I mention you can do this whole minimalist makeup routine in under 5 minutes? It’s super easy, too, and doesn’t require an entire makeup train case to complete. Just hop out of bed, spent five minutes on your makeup, grab some coffee, and tackle your day.
If you’re looking to try something new, another one of my favorite Burt’s Bees products are their tinted lip oil pens. They can be applied on bare lips or over lipstick for a more dramatic look, and I own (literally) the whole product line.
