Hands down, the most rewarding thing about blogging is the opportunity to post about things I am truly passionate about. With that being said, I am so happy to announce that today is the official launch day of ICE BlackBox, an anti-abuse organization who has developed a revolutionary mobile app to fight bullying, rape, and other forms of abuse.
Let’s take a look at the (horrifying) statistics… Every day 160,000 kids skip school because they are afraid they will be bullied. Every 15 seconds a woman is beaten by her husband. And to add to the outrage, 97% of rapists will never spend a day in jail. ICE BlackBox aims to help fight these alarming statistics and make this world a safer place through technological empowerment. In a nutshell, this app is an emergency device for any individual in jeopardy, allowing them a valuable defense mechanism: the ability to remove the anonymity from the attacker.
How does it work exactly? It’s a fairly simple yet completely revolutionary concept. Once launched, a full screen video camera opens and streams video, audio, and GPS information to a secure vault. This evidence is available to the victim and the victim’s ICE contacts (a personal list of “In Case of Emergency” contacts). It cannot be deleted, which is done to protect the victim from being forced to delete the recording. It’s like having a silent witness that won’t back out.
Use ICE BlackBox to: prevent bullying, combat domestic abuse, deter rape, fight hate crime, defend against assault, prevent child abuse, document workplace harassment, document traffic incidents, record law-enforcement stops, safeguard walks at night, travel, and whenever you feel threatened or unsafe. It has built-in 911 dialing capability; however, if the situation at hand is not an emergency, the video can be easily texted or emailed to law enforcement or school officials.
This app could make a huge impact on personal safety for our generation and generations to come, but it’s nothing without a movement behind it. As a human community, we must come together and make a commitment to use this tool to stop abuse. We can make a difference!
You can download ICE BlackBox from iTunes starting today, April 19th for $4.99. To learn more, please visit the ICE BlackBox website, or follow them on Twitter or Facebook, or feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
This is AWESOME! I can't wait to get my iPhone so that I can have this app…just in case. You never know what can happen walking through to Wal-Mart parking lot or stopping to get gas!
Thanks for introducing this app!
