Summer is nearly here, and you know what that means– it’s soccer season! With so many exciting soccer matches on TV right now, Kyle and I love throwing watch parties with all our closest friends. In my experience, no party is complete without a self-serve drink station, and my new go-to is a DIY Michelada Bar. Guests can customize their drinks, which is always fun, and feed themselves with yummy finger foods at the same time. Aside from Clamato® Tomato Cocktail (it’s an essential!), you can customize your Michelada Bar with whatever Mexican lager or toppings you already have in your fridge. From bacon to cheese cubes, the sky’s the limit!

In case you’re clueless (and, honestly, I had no idea until recently), a Michelada is a Mexican cerveza preparada, ie a classic Mexican beer recipe mixed with tomato juice and hot sauce. After seeing this authentic recipe from Ever in Transit, I tried my very first Michelada a few weeks ago. After a few sips, I was totally hooked. They’re delicious! Keep reading to learn more about what I always include in my DIY Michelada Bar plus a step-by-step tutorial for how to make the perfect Michelada!

When crafting the perfect DIY Michelada Bar, it really comes down to personal preference. The must-haves are Clamato (my go-to authentic tomato cocktail), Mexican lager beer, limes, and hot sauce. Side Note: You’ll find all the ingredients for the perfect Michelada recipe listed below. As for toppings, I like to add pickles, salami-wrapped cheese, olives, pepperoncinis, shrimp, celery, and bacon into the mix. For the Michelada Rim

A tasty Michelada rim is key! Before adding any liquid or ice, mix 3-4 tablespoons of Mexican seasoning with salt on a small plate. Rub a slice of lime around the rim of the glass and then press the rim into the salt mixture. Store any leftover Michelada rim seasoning in a small mason jar for future parties.

Fill the Michelada glass about 1/3 of the way with a little bit of ice and Clamato Tomato Cocktail. I love using Clamato because it’s an authentic tomato cocktail that’s perfect for spicing up all your parties and get-togethers. Plus, it makes a mean Michelada!

Next, add in 3-4 splashes of hot sauce, a few splashes of Worcestershire sauce, 2 splashes of soy sauce, and 2 tablespoons of lime juice or the squeezed juice of one average-sized lime. Fill the rest with your choice of cold Mexican lager beer.

Finally, add your favorite toppings! Personally, I love adding a little bit of everything to my Micheladas– including (but not limited to) celery, salami, cheese, pickles, pepperoncinis, and shrimp. I also like to toss in an extra pinch of Michelada rim seasoning on top.
