If the temperature is under 50 degrees, there’s a 95% chance I’m wearing a crew neck sweater over an oxford. Not only is it a classic preppy style, it’s also an effortlessly chic way to layer, since you can easily wear a neutral v-neck under the oxford in colder winter climates, like, say, virtually anywhere in Maine. As wanderlust continually forces me to be quite an efficient packer, I’m going to be rounding up my travel essentials in a few weeks… but (spoiler alert) this outfit sums up about half of them. I never pack a suitcase without grabbing a white and/or striped oxford and a classic crew neck sweater.
I wore this particular red crewneck sweater for a fun day in Portland, Maine with Kyle and Brittany of Brittany Rae Photography. Portland is about two hours from where we were staying, so we wanted to make the most of our time there and enjoy the restaurants, museums, and urban ambiance. Although red is surprisingly neutral enough to compliment virtually any solid colored dress shirt, I styled my red crewneck sweater over a classic blue and white pin stripe Ralph Lauren Oxford with a red knit beanie (a northern essential– I never knew how crucial hats were until I spent a week in a Maine January), dark wash jeans, and tall brown boots, which are surprisingly comfortable and great for walking. Unfortunately, this exact style of tall boots went out of stock over a year ago, but I found a near identical and similarly priced pair from Calvin Klein here.
