When does it start?

It’s being advertised as starting on June 11th, but it really starts TONIGHT at 9PM ET! The sale will last for 30 hours with new deals being offered every five minutes. So set those alarms!

Do I have to have a prime membership to shop?

Yes. You must have an Amazon Prime membership in order to take advantage of the Prime Day sales. Luckily, for a limited time, you can try the service with no commitment to test out the benefits for yourself. Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial for free here! Yep, that’s enough time to download it for the sale… and then kick it to the curb if you so decide. Although, you probably won’t want to. The Prime membership program offers special benefits, like instantly watching thousands of movies and TV episodes, borrowing Kindle books, and getting unlimited free two-day shipping with no minimum order size, for $99 per year. That’s a little over $8 a month. 

Also, if you know someone who should have an Amazon Prime membership but doesn’t, you can give the gift of Amazon Prime for $33 for three months of $99 for the year!

As for items that I’ll be ordering for myself, hundreds of adorable little home decor knick knacks, like these fun Umbra Trigg Hanging Planter Vase and Geometric Wall Decor Container, are on sale! If you’ve had your eye on any Amazon products, there’s no better time to stock up than right now! This includes Amazon Dash Buttons, Amazon Echo Dot, Amazon Fire Tablets, and Amazon Kindles! Audible audiobooks will also be majorly marked down.

Is it better than last year? Better than Black Friday?

Yes. Also, no. According to Forbes, the Amazon Echo, which has dropped to $90, is $40 cheaper than it was on Prime Day 2016 and $50 less than it was on Black Friday 2016. The Echo Dot, which costs just $35 will be $5 less than Prime Day 2016 and Black Friday. Another product to snag is the Kindle Paperwhite. At $90, the Paperwhite costs the same as it did on Prime Day last year, but it’s still $10 cheaper than Black Friday.

However, if you’re hoping to pick up a sweet new TV, Prime Day probably isn’t the best day to do it. Of the HDTVs Amazon has announced pricing on, the site’s actually posting a number of price increases. What?! For example, an Element 55-inch 4K Ultra HD smart LED TV is selling for $400 on Prime Day 2017. That’s $120 more than an equivalent TV on Black Friday. The trend continues with smaller smart TVs and other large electronics, as well. 

Basically, now’s the time to buy Amazon products. This includes fashion brands exclusive to Amazon Prime members, like Lark & Ro, Paris Sunday, Ella Moon, and Coaster Blue. For anything else, Forbes recommends consulting price tracking sites like Camel Camel Camel to make sure you’re not ignorantly succumbing to your impulses.
