Confession– I know nothing about power tools. They’re intimidating, and I’ve always assumed I’d hurt myself if I ever even tried to use them. So, when I heard about Worx MakerX tools for the first time, I was super intrigued– because they’re essentially easy-to-use, portable, handheld power tools for crafters. The line revolves around a 20V Power Hub that powers five compact tools, including an airbrush, angle grinder, mini heat gun, rotary tool, and wood and metal crafter. I’m still learning the ropes as far as functionality and potential projects go, but I’m excited to make some custom wood-burned cheese boards, little x-shaped coasters (more on these below!), and a handful of other fun DIY gifts over the next few weeks.
Keep reading for an initial MakerX creative tools review, plus information on how to enter both my MakerX giveaway (an entire set of tools is up for grabs) and Worx’s “Power of X” contest (six different cash prizes are up for grabs)!
MakerX Creative Tools Review
I haven’t gotten into any super advanced or involved projects just yet, but I wanted to give y’all some of my initial thoughts on these MakerX tools. Again, I’m new to power tools– and I’m a complete woodworking neophyte, but I think these are such an amazing way to familiarize yourself with what these little attachments can do.
What is MakerX?
So, first off, what even is MakerX– or WorkX? MakerX is a system of portable power tools, which were crated by WorkX, that’s ergonomically designed to amplify craftsmanship and artistry. It’s ideal for anyone who loves creating– from DIY hobbyists like me to creative professionals with their own craft shops.
What makes MakerX special?
MakerX creative tools are special for a few reasons– the primary reason being that there’s nothing else like it. It’s the only expandable/portable 20V creative tool system on the market.
Another major reason (my favorite one, in fact) is that they’ve got a user-friendly design that’s easy to control. In other words, they’re completely non-intimidating, which cannot be said for other power tools (at least not in my experience).
They’re also light and genuinely portable. They fit together seamlessly in my little tool bag– with quite a bit of room to spare actually. As a reference point, none of the attachments are any larger or more cumbersome than a standard wrench or screwdriver, although they’re much lighter weight-wise.
What can you make with MakerX creative tools?
So many things! From casual crafting to technical repair and woodworking, the MakerX system can legitimately do it all. Here’s a little rundown of all the attachments and what they do–
- 20V Hub– This one’s pretty basic– it’s the power source.
- Rotary Tool– This tool has a fast-spinning, brushless motor tip that can be used for grinding, sanding, and polishing a variety of metals. It accepts all brands of standard accessories, too!
- Angle Grinder– This tool has a brushless motor and is significantly smaller than conventional angle grinders. You can use it to grind metal, cut tile or pavers, and even polish stone. I’ll be using this to create my custom wooden x-shaped coasters for the Power of X contest (more on that below)!
- Air Brush– This guy’s the only 20V-powered Air Brush you can buy! Use it to paint models, do airbrush makeup– sky’s the limit.
- Mini Heat Gun– This mini heat gun heats up to 500F in seconds and can be used to soften glue, defrost frozen pipes, and apply vehicle decals.
- Wood and Metal Crafter– Use this attachment to create custom wood-burned crafts or engrave metal!
Where can you buy MakerX creative tools?
MakerX tools can be ordered on Worx.com, Amazon, and Lowe’s!
