Every year I face the daunting task of selecting a signature cocktail for my annual Derby Day soiree, and every year, I’m at a loss for creativity. Most years I end up going with a classic (albeit delicious) mint julep, but by request, I’ve decided to spice it up and offer a few fun, non-traditional options. Thanks primarily to Pinterest, I did my research and rounded up these absolutely delectable mint julep recipes that you need to try on (or before and/or after) Derby Day! Click the cocktail name or photo to view the full recipe.
one | Blackberry Mint Julep
three | Sweet Tea Mint Julep
four | Matcha Mint Julep
five | Frozen Mint Julep
six | Rhubarb Mint Julep
seven | Blueberry Mint Julep
eight | Cherry and Lime Mint Julep
nine | Thai Basil Mint Julep
ten| Mint Julep Granita
I’ve personally taste tested each drink, and delicious doesn’t do any of these mint julep recipes justice. Regardless of your traditional alcoholic palette, I suggest giving these a quick try before writing them off and reverting back to the conventional, Kentucky Derby-approved drink. Just think– you can justify making your own mid-day julep flight in the name of good hostessing. Do it for your guests, you guys.
