Now that the turkey has been carved and the Halloween candy you hid from the kids has been eaten (no judgments), it’s time to start thinking about the merriest shopping season of the year. If we know you (and we think we do) you’ve probably already begun making your list and checking it twice. And throwing it all out because the gift ideas you’ve come up with just aren’t right.

Your Boss

Yes, we see the irony of spending your hard-earned money on buying a gift for the person that makes it so hard-earned. But wouldn’t you agree it’s better to grease the hand that pays you rather than going out of your way to avoid your boss the day before holiday vacation because you were the only one in the office not to give her a gift? We thought so.

When it comes to buying a gift for the boss, a little something goes a long way. If you know she’ll be travelling over the holidays consider giving her a fun luggage tag and passport holder. After all, it’s hard to give a bad review to someone who brings you cookies.

Your Co-Worker 

Regardless of how much you appreciate her and her spot-on impressions of your office nemesis, resist the urge to buy your work wife (or husband) an over-the-top present. Trust us, it’s really awkward when you give someone a cashmere-sweater-level gift only to get a scented-candle-level gift in return.

A little something is all you need to get the point across that you would be lost without her. Lean in to any inside jokes you share and let it be your inspiration. Gift her a coffee gift card in a sassy Kate Spade mug or a cute tote bag stuffed with her favorite guilty pleasure snacks. Give from the heart (or funny bone, if that’s easier) and you’ll make Co-Worker of the Year before you know it.

Your Best Friend 

Chances are your bestie already knows how you feel about her (no doubt she feels the same way too). Even though she deserves the best that money can buy, consider giving your best friend an experience to remember instead. Surprise her with a girl’s weekend away and hide the details of your trip in a cute weekend getaway bag. Or treat her to a class at that new PiYo studio with the promise of FroYo if you both survive it.

Your Dog Walker

Your dog walker is a life saver – and a couch saver, and a shoe saver and a pillow saver. Without this valuable person in your life, your adorable yet rambunctious fur babies would destroy your apartment and only the best parts of your wardrobe, guaranteed. Remember to value your pet’s best friend this holiday season with a small gift (and bonus) that says ‘thank you for saving my dog’s sanity.’ A pair of stylish ear buds or a cute phone charger are both thoughtful and practical gifts for someone that spends a lot of time on long (and fast) walks.  

Your Sister

We don’t have to tell you that sisters are complicated. You can go from best friends to worst enemies on the same day and still completely be on the same page about how not cool Dad looks in skinny jeans and a fedora (that family fashion intervention is inevitable).

For better or worse, sisters are friends for life. Try going sentimental for your gift this year. Honor one of your favorite childhood memories in a fab Lilly Pulitzer photo frame. Put a little history in that oh-so-grown-up present and we’re sure you’ll be reminiscing (and fighting) about the good old days all season long.

Your Child’s Teacher 

You’ll get no argument here – teachers are heroes. Not only do they instill wisdom in your children every day and help them learn to function in society, but they do it in such a way that the kids don’t even realize they’re learning. Ok, maybe they’re more like ninjas – wisdom ninjas. Either way, your child’s teacher deserves some serious thanks this holiday season.

Why not gift your kiddo’s favorite teacher a stylish tech sleeve to keep her classroom laptop protected from prying hands and sticky fingers. Infuse a bit of adult style into her workspace with some colorful desk accessories or a fun travel mug to keep her hydrated (and caffeinated) all day long.

Your Mr. Perfect

What do you get the man who has everything? Well, we don’t know him personally but we’re pretty confidant that he doesn’t need another striped tie. When it comes to giving your man what he wants this holiday season, do yourself a favor and think, well, like a man. What does he want to see you in more than anything? Some slinky lingerie like the kind you wore on your honeymoon? A gorgeous little black dress that accentuates the parts of you that drive him wild? Treat your man to a night of romance and we’re sure your holidays – and your love life – will get a lot more colorful.
